Funky Fingers

Funky Fingers is an activity we do each day to build on both our gross and fine motor skills. We start by warming up our muscles, to some music. For autumn first half term, we warmed up to Pharrell Williams - Happy and this half term we're grooving to Uptown Funk. These upbeat tunes get our bodies moving, warm up our muscles and joints and get us ready to learn.

After the warm up, we split into smaller groups as we have different activities running in a circuit, this way we each get to do every activity throughout the week.

We always have dough gym and cutting skills as these make our fingers really strong and build up the muscles in our hands, getting us ready to write. However, the other activities change every week.

Some of the activities include:

  • Pea squashing
  • Filling socks with sand
  • Threading straws or beads on to string
  • Chopping spaghetti
  • Sorting pompoms using tweezers....

and many more to come.
