Mental Health and Wellbeing
Mental Health and Wellbeing
‘We all have mental health’ (Anna Freud Centre) and at Beaminster St. Mary’s we recognise that it is vital that we do all we can to promote good mental health and wellbeing.
All staff in the school are aware of the importance of recognising and supporting the mental health of children, parents/ carers and colleagues and we do this in a variety of ways. Overarching the ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) interventions, the ‘key adult’ role that some children require and the daily Settle to Learn sessions, there is a relational policy in the school that is based on strong attachment models. These models relate to how staff approach children and also how children relate to each other; we promote a culture of respect, trust, kindness and friendship which all contribute to better mental health and wellbeing.
Since the pandemic started, there has been an increased focus on mental health and wellbeing and we will be continually striving to improve the provision that is offered to those who need assistance. The first step is to be open and honest about mental health and recognise that mental health is real and can affect all of us; asking for help will open many pathways for support so please do speak to any member of staff if you or your child are experiencing any sort of mental health or wellbeing needs.
